We will face many challenges that test our resolve, but acting impulsively will often create setbacks of one kind or another. Ultimately, we want to find a productive outcome, so before we do or say something we can’t take back, consider some of the following actions to decompress and gain perspective. Activities like meditation, exercise, and talking with people who we trust can provide the outlet we need to better deal with stress. However, if you find yourself already in the moment, politely step away and take about 10 minutes before the interaction continues. Use this time to go for a walk or practice focused breathing in another space, and revisit your thoughts. Most likely when you return, you will have taken the edge off and you will be better prepared to work through the situation.
